What do you say when a small kid comes up to you and asks, How can I become a doctor? This is a common question to which few have in depth knowledge. In fact, the courses and the path that one needs to follow vary from country to country with the only exception being the requirement of a five years or more MBBS degree that forms the base for doctor’s education. However, simply having a MBBS degree is not enough as one will then have to get specialization degrees in their chosen field that comes under the MD degree. For further studies you can choose to get a PHD so that your knowledge in a particular field of medicine is improved.
The preparation to become a doctor is very grueling and not everyone can achieve this feat. The number of MBBS dropout’s, increases year by year, which can be accredited to the fact that doctor studies is quite difficult. Those students, who find biology and mathematics in their high school or undergraduate studies appealing and easy, will fare best in Medicine studies. Furthermore, medicine studies do require some amount of chemistry as well therefore students good in chemistry shall also fare well.
Overall, the medicine studies are tough and therefore require one to concentrate over the years and study hard. To specialize in a specific field of medicine will obviously take years longer, depending on the field. The best advice therefore to give to kids wishing to become a doctor one day is to tell them to study hard and prepare well for their medical entrance exams. Once the studies are over, it is quite rewarding in monetary terms as well as to the conscience.
