Objectives
The 48th Annual ICAAC/IDSA 46th Annual Meeting scientific program offers an educational forum that:
- Bridges the widening gaps among the fields of infectious disease clinical practice, clinical research, epidemiological and health services research, translational research, and basic research;
- Promotes multi-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration among clinicians and investigators, thus facilitating advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases;
- Provides new data from the research of basic microbiological sciences related to human disease;
- Updates medical professionals on clinical diagnoses, preventative modalities and therapeutics;
- Investigates the pathogenesis and epidemiology of old and new microbes;
- Evaluates the spread of infectious diseases throughout the world;
- Analyzes the developing resistance of pathogens to diverse therapeutics;
- Introduces new antimicrobial agents; and
- Considers the most recent trends in health care management.

Continuing Education (CE) Pavilion and Statement of Credit
Attendees are responsible for claiming their credit earned at the 48th Annual ICAAC/ IDSA 46th Annual Meeting and obtaining a Statement of Credit according to the following procedure (Note: You no longer need to pay the additional fee to receive CE credit):
- Between October 25-28, attendees may generate your CE Statement of Credit onsite in Washington, DC by visiting E-Central locations throughout the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
- Beginning November 15, attendees may also claim and evaluate their CME/CE activities at www.icaacidsa2008.org, www.asm.org, and www.idsociety.org.
- Attendee should only claim credit commensurate with their participation in the educational activity.
- Attendees are required to complete a short evaluation survey when claiming credit for a session.
- Attendees can print a CE Statement of Credit directly from the E-Central terminals or from their own computer.
Physicians and Microbiologists
Continuing Medical Education
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians. The American Society for Microbiology takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 36.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The American Medical Association (AMA) has determined that physicians not licensed in the U.S. who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Diplomates of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, Diplomates of the American Board f Medical Laboratory Immunology, and Registrants of the National Registry of Microbiologists may earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ toward re-certification. Each professional should claim credit commensurate with their level of participation in the activity.
Pharmacists
The American Society for Microbiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. ASM will award continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit for participation in select 48th
Annual ICAAC/IDSA 46th Annual Meeting sessions. Current sessions already approved for (CPE) credit will have a corresponding Universal Program Number next to the session title. In October, a final detailed list of all sessions offering continuing pharmacy education and corresponding Universal Program Numbers will be made available online at www.icaacidsa2008.org. Statements of Credit will indicate credits based on participation. ASM complies with the ACPE Criteria for Quality and Interpretive Guidelines.
California Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS):
ASM is accredited by the California Department of Health Services to offer continuing education for California Clinical Laboratory Scientists. All sessions designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will also qualify for California CE credits toward CLS license renewal. To complete your requirements, be sure to sign the rosters located outside of session rooms.
Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel:
ASM is accredited by the Florida Department of Health to offer continuing education for Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Sessions approved for Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel feature the Florida CE symbol. To complete the requirements, be sure to sign the rosters located outside of session rooms.
Other CE Licenses
Participants may obtain a Statement of Credit by following the steps above, in the section titled Continuing Education (CE) Pavilion and Statement of Credit.

If you have concerns (e.g., commercially-biased presentations, promotional materials distributed by presenters and/or participants, etc), please visit the ICAAC/IDSA Headquarters Office and ask to speak to an ASM staff person so that ASM can respond immediately to your concerns.
