Workshop Program
ASM's Professional Development Committee has collaborated with IDSA to organized 13 workshops preceding the 48th ICAAC/46th IDSA Annual Meeting, to be held on Saturday, October 24. Full day programs begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m unless otherwised noted. All scheduled days and times will be noted in the description. The workshop schedule, faculty, and topics are subject to change so please continute to check this site as the Joint Meeting approaches.
Workshops will include active participation and interaction with the audience.
Lunch will be provided to all full-day workshop participants. A ticket will be given to participants with instructions on the day of the workshop.
Workshop Location
All workshops will be held off-site at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Pre-registered attendees will report directly to the Workshop rooms
Registration
The workshop registration deadline is August 29, 2008. You may register for a workshop(s) by entering the appropriate code and price on the Registration Form. The codes and prices are listed with the workshop descriptions.
Advance registration is strongly encouraged for all workshops. Workshops frequently sell out. On-site registration will NOT be available for sessions that reach capacity and close before the Joint Meeting. ASM/IDSA will publish updates on closed workshops to this website.
Conversely, a minimum of 20 attendees is required to hold a workshop. If the minimum is not met, ASM/IDSA reserves the right to cancel a workshop.
The fee for workshops is not included in the Joint Meeting registration fee.

Continuing Education (CE) Pavilion and Statement of Credit:
Attendees are responsible for claiming their credit at the 48th ICAAC/46th IDSA Annual Meeting sessions and obtaining a Statement of Credit according to the following procedure:
- Between October 25-28, you may generate your CE Statement of Credit onsite in Washington by visiting E-Central and accessing the new ASM CE Portal.
- Following the meeting you may also claim and evaluate your CME/CE activities by directly accessing the ASM CE Portal.
- Provide your feedback for the sessions that you attended.
- Claim credit commensurate with your participation in the educational activity.
- Your Statement of Credit can be printed directly from the CE Portal and credits can be tracked with a personalized transcript.
Continuing Education Accreditation
Physicians and Microbiologists
The American Society for Microbiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians. The American Society for Microbiology takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. ASM designates full-day workshops for a maximum of 7 and half-day workshops for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with their level of participation in the education activity.
The American Medical Association(AMA) has determined that physicians not licensed in the U.S. who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Diplomates of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, Diplomates of the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology, and Registrants of the National Registry of Microbiologists may earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ towards recertification. Each participant should claim only those credits commensurate with their participation in the activity.Pharmacists:
The American Society for Microbiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. ASM will award continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit for participation in select 48th ICAAC/46th IDSA Annual Meeting workshops.California Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS):
ASM is accredited by the California Department of Health Services to provide continuing education (CE) to Clinical Laboratory Scientists. All workshops designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will also qualify for California CE credits toward CLS liscence renewal.Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel:
ASM is accredited by the Florida Department of Health to offer continuing edcuation to Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Workshops that offer Florida CE contact hours will be indicated in the individual workshop details.To complete your California and Florida requirements, please be sure to provide your signature on the rosters in the workshop rooms; you will need to fill out a workshop evaluation form as well.
On-Site Registration
Individuals who did not register for a workshop before August 29, 2008, may register on site for workshops on a space available basis. On-site registrants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and the workshop rate will increase by $50.00.
NOTE: Pre-registered attendees should report directly to the Workshop Rooms.Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing by August 29 for a refund (less a $25 processing fee). Cancellations will not be processed after August 29.Questions?
